A
scheme is being put in place to make Dartmoor Hill Ponies more
accessible to purchasers nationwide.
Each year many people think about purchasing a Dartmoor Hill
Pony from the annual markets but unfortunately the logistics
and cost of traveling to Devon and then transporting the pony
home has proved prohibitive. However a solution is now at hand
through the work of various equine welfare organizations across
the country.
Charlotte Falkner a member of the Friends of the Dartmoor Hill
Pony as volunteered to act as an agent for any one interested
in purchasing a pony from the sales. All the prospective purchaser
has to do is tell Charlotte of the size, colour, and sex of the
pony they are looking for and pay a deposit of between £75
and £200. Charlotte then does the rest and will endeavor
to purchase a pony which meets the requirement. Once brought
the ponies will then be transported to different collection points
around the UK from where they can be collected by their new owners.
So
far pick up points have been arranged in Lancashire, Essex, Scotland,
Kent and Worcester |
As the service is for the benefit of the pony herds and Dartmoor
and there will be no commission payable.
