High RiskIris are tall, perennial, spiky plants which grown from bulbous tubers. The leaves are sword-shaped which either grow from the base or alternatively up the stem according to the species. Flowers are bight and showy with outer tepals normally drooping. Various colours ranging from blue and purple to yellow. Iris are grown as a garden flower so different colour combinations do escape into the wild. Can be found in almost any habitat including open woodland, water margins, lake and river shores, waste land, and grassland. Flowers June to August.
Higher than normal temperature, severe digestive upset, intestinal disturbance, diarrhoea and sometimes bleeding, dermatitis.
Notes:
All parts of the iris are poisonous. Although cases of poisoning
have been reported most animals recover in a few days.
