breed line. As usual a Fell Pony show was held immediately before the sale giving potential buyers the opportunity to see some of the ponies at first hand away from the pens and sale ring. Judged by Mr T Capstick (Murthwaite Fell Ponies - Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria) the ponies were divided in three classes - colt and filly foals, in-hand any age, and under saddle. Show champion was finally awarded to the black colt foal Bybeck Hercules, owned by Mr C Roberts, from Tebay just south of Penrith, while the reserve champion was the winner of the in-hand class - Leo owned by Mrs C Logan from Nenthall, Alston.
